Sherry Phipps has failed to provide voters with positions on key issues covered by the 2020 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests from Vote Smart and voters like you.
No | Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
Yes | Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?
This is an undeclared war. According to Article I, Section 8 of the U S Constitution only Congress is authorized to declare war. In this same section, Congress can grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal. This could have been used to go after Osama Bin Laden. The timetable is to pull out the equipment and troops as quickly and safely as possible. |
Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing the federal budget. In order to balance the budget,
Yes | do you support reducing defense spending?
No | do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes | do you support reducing Medicaid spending?
Yes | do you support reducing Medicare spending?
Yes | Is balancing the budget a legislative priority?
Defense spending can be reduced by closing installations outside of the United States. We need to protect our own borders. Medicaid and Medicare, although unconstitutional, need to be phased out in a way that will allow people to move to other options. This would probably take at least ten years. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
It should be individuals that voluntarily contribute to campaigns. |
No | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No | Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
No | Do you support spending on infrastructure projects for the purpose of job creation?
No | Do you support the temporary extension of unemployment benefits?
No | Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
My idea of tax relief is to repeal the 16th amendment. Taxing businesses at all is a bad idea. It becomes a hidden tax to the consumer and stifles growth. Government should not be regulating the private sector. |
No | Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants? |
No | Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
No | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? |
Yes | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
No | Should individuals be required to purchase health insurance, as mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act? |
Yes | Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Do you support allowing illegal immigrants, who were brought to the United States as minors, to pursue citizenship without returning to their country of origin?
Yes | Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration law by state and local police?
Every person who comes illegally lessens the opportunity for those trying to come legally and who truly want to assimilate into the American way of life from being able to come. There are people who want to come here, learn our language, learn how to live under the rule of law, and contribute to society. |
No | Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
No | Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon?
The best national security is to bring our troops home to protect our own borders and withdraw from the United Nations and other foreign entanglements. |
Yes | Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
Social Security is unconstitutional. We need to move away from it totally. |

States should be allowed to tax fuel or have tolls in order to maintain their highways. That is the only thing those taxes should be used for. I do support tariffs. |
My number one priority is to get us out of the United Nations. My second priority is to bring our troops home. My third priority is to return power and responsibility back to the people and the states (9th and 10th amendment) and give the states federally held land (other than for forts and military installations). I will vote against any bill that is unconstitutional, which means I will usually vote no. |
